I HAD A DREAM!

I had a very powerful and unusual dream a few nights ago that really touched me deeply.

It was so real that I felt emotions very deeply, and I believe God gave me some glimpses into His own heart. I’m not going to share the entire dream, but most of it. Here goes:

Cheri and I had a baby boy! Here we were, one of those Abraham-and-Sarah kind of things, when something like that seems impossible. In the dream I was absolutely lit up with joy! I was holding the baby very close to my chest and face and was engulfed with very strong feelings of love, joyous exhilaration, pride. So excited!!! Cheri, then, in answer to someone asking her a question about something else (not having the baby), said, “We’re too old for that.” I answered immediately, WHO’S too old!? Look, we just had a baby! 🙂 The people around laughed with me.

Then in the dream, someone who had been holding our baby handed him back to me, and he was sopping wet. I asked the person, “Why didn’t you change the diaper?” The answer was, “It’s too smelly.” Then I woke up.

Okay, crazy dream, I know. But I was so blessed and exhilarated holding my son in the dream that when I woke up, those feelings were still inside me, engulfing me, really. After reflecting on it, I thought about the heart of our amazing heavenly Father: He must be totally engulfed with love, excitement, joyous exhilaration for each one of us. My experience, I’m sure, gave me a genuine experience of at least a measure of how much God loves each one of us and rejoices in us. Mind boggling, so powerful!

What about the messy wet diaper, which represents the messes we humans, in our sinfulness and brokenness, so often make of things? Would God have brought us into the world if He knew what messes we would make, what problems we would have – and be? The answer is YES. Because He DID know; and His love and yearning for us were so strong that He brought us into the world anyway.

My dream was a super-powerful and profound experience that helped me comprehend on a deeper level than I had understood before the wonderful love and excitement that God feels for every one of us. “The Lord your God is with you; He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17
